Friday the 13th or Friday the 3rd?

You will probably have to kiss goodbye to Word, Excel and PowerPoint files on Feb 3 2006. Antivirus firms are warning of a destructive Windows worm that will begin wiping files on infected PCs this Friday. 'Nyxem.e' has been spreading via infected emails and network shares.

On the third of each month the worm will activate 30 minutes after the computer is booted up and overwrite all files with the extensions DOC, XLS, MDB, MDE, PPT, PPS, ZIP, RAR, PDF, PSD and DMP. Corrupted files contain the text 'DATA Error [47 0F 94 93 F4 F5]'.

The emails containing the malware use a variety of social engineering hooks to get the recipient to activate the worm, predominantly of a sexual nature.

GITEX, one of the world's top 3 IT exhibitions was held in Hyderabad from 11-13 Jan 2006. Netcore Solutions Pvt. Ltd. launched its services 'Emergic CleanMail' at the GITEX India 2006 which is the continuation of the successful GITEX Hyderabad Exhibitions. Emergic CleanMail is an Internet-based filtering service to monitor and filter e-mail traffic to protect against spam mails, virus attacks and save bandwidth. Netcore was able to demonstrate its service and its features to a mass population of IT companies.

At DQ Channel's SI Summit 2006

A rapidly-spreading worm is carrying a potentially destructive set of instructions. The Nyxem worm -- also nicknamed the Kama Sutra worm -- is programmed to overwrite all of the files on computers it infects on Feb. 3
